British number one Jack Draper has parted ways with his coach Wayne Ferreira ahead of the US Open.

Seeded 25th ahead of the final Grand Slam of the year, Draper named the South African as James Trotman’s teammate in April and enjoyed success under his tutelage, including his first ATP Tour title in June.

But Draper said the situation was complicated, and so he again referred to Trotman as the sole speaker, since the tournament in New York begins on Monday.

“Bringing Wayne on board was a really good decision. The decision was based on his value as a coach and of course his experience as a player,” he said.

“I’ve always been someone who likes to keep things simple. And I’ve never experienced a team dynamic like this before, where I have two different voices and two different coaches.

“I always wanted the Trotskyists to take the lead in what I do.

“I just felt like it wasn’t as easy as I would have liked and I wanted a voice on my team.

“I think it was probably the right thing to part ways with Wayne and keep it the way I want it as a player.

“Other than that, my time with Wayne was great. I learned a lot. He taught me a lot of valuable things.

“I think he’s an amazing guy and someone who, you know, will continue to be a friend.”
