Jack Neely, former Ohio State baseball player, is said to have been drafted by the Cubs

The Ohio State baseball team can add another MLB appearance to its list.

According to MLB Pipeline, former Ohio State pitcher Jack Neely will be called up by the Chicago Cubs for his major league debut.

The Cubs have not announced the roster change.

Neely was drafted in the 11th round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees. He was traded to the Cubs at the July trade deadline and is the organization’s 18th rookie.

Before making the major league roster, Neely played six games with the Iowa Cubs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. Neely struck out 13 players in 6.2 innings, allowing four hits, one walk and one unearned run. He finished four games in six appearances and had three saves.

Neely began his college career at Texas before transferring to Ohio State. He appeared in 12 games in 2021 and had 62 strikeouts and 24 walks in 41.1 innings.

Neely would be the third former Ohio State baseball player to make his MLB debut in 2024, along with catcher Dillon Dingler of the Detroit Tigers and first baseman Zach Dezenzo of the Houston Astros.

Pitcher Jacob Bosiokovic of the St. Louis Cardinals was called up to the Major League roster for the first time, but did not play for the club.

The Cubs begin a three-game home series against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday at 8:05 p.m.
