Jayvon McFadden, 4-star OL 2025, commits to Ohio State Football

Ohio State has added another member to its 2025 offensive line class.

Maryland 4-star guard Jayvon McFadden for 2025 announced his commitment to Ohio State on Saturday, according to On3, choosing the Buckeyes over finalists Colorado, Florida, Maryland and South Carolina.

McFadden, a 6-foot-5, 295-pound lineman from Riverdale Baptist High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, is the No. 469 prospect in the class of 2025 and the 28th-ranked offensive lineman in the country according to 247Sports’ overall rankings.

Ohio State offered McFadden in November after he was there for the Buckeyes’ win over Michigan State. He returned to campus for Ohio State’s spring game before taking his official visit the weekend of June 7.

McFadden is the first player Ohio State has signed to Maryland since four-star defensive lineman Jason Moore signed with the Buckeyes in 2023.

Analyzing Jayvon McFadden’s signing: What it means for Ohio State

McFadden is the offensive lineman that Carter Lowe, a four-star signee out of Toledo, wanted to play alongside him at Ohio State.

“My boy, that’s my guy,” Lowe said in June. “He loves the ball, just like I do. You know, I’m still relatively new to the game, but he’s got a lot of knowledge. He loves the game. So it would be crazy and really, really fun to play next to him. So I talk to him a lot. Hopefully he can be a Buckeye, too.”

With McFadden and Lowe, as well as three-star center Jake Cook, on the team, Ohio State’s offensive line for 2025 is slowly taking shape.

In the Ryan Day era, Ohio State has averaged four offensive linemen per recruiting class, a number the Buckeyes will reach in 2024 with Ian Moore, Devontae Armstrong, Deontae Armstrong and Gabe VanSickle.

But that’s not exactly the line Ohio State wanted.

The Buckeyes recently missed out on five-star offensive tackles David Sanders Jr. (Tennessee) and Josh Petty (Georgia Tech). Lowe is the highest-rated commitment Frye has received during his tenure at Ohio State and one of eight four-star linemen to join the Buckeyes since 2023, two of whom, VanSickle and Moore, come from outside Ohio.

Ohio State has a tackle, a guard and its future center. But when it comes to depth, especially on the wing, the Buckeyes have more questions than answers as the class of 2025 draws to a close.
