Jersey Farmers Union supports Grosnez Farm barn expansion plans

A planning application to extend a farm in north-west Jersey has been supported by the Jersey Farmers Union (JFU) and the horse racing authorities.

Grosnez Farm in St Ouen has applied for permission for a 764 m² (8,223 sq ft) extension to its existing stable site.

The Malzard Racing and Livery Stables, which operate on the site, could receive ten new stables and an additional storage area if the plans are approved.

JFU President Doug Richardson said the benefits of the expansion were “tremendous.”

“It creates more employment diversity within your population and also the skill set within your population is much more diverse,” he said.

Channel Islands Horseracing Authority president Jonathan Perree said it was “fantastic” to invest in the region.

“We don’t know who among the island’s young people has what it takes to be the next Carl Hester,” he said.

“We have to go out there and make sure they have the opportunities and facilities to come here and train.”

Seven-time Olympian Hester from Sark, won bronze in the dressage team event in Paris.

The Planning and Building Authority will decide whether the application can be approved. The state planning authority’s website states that the application is currently pending.
