Joe Alwyn reveals in an exclusive cast video that he cut Emma Stone’s hair on the set of “Kinds of Kindness”

Joe Alwyn revealed a surprising detail about his time on set with Emma Stone in a recent video shared exclusively with PEOPLE. The British actor, who stars alongside Stone in Yorgos Lanthimos’ latest film Kinds of Kindness, revealed that he was entrusted with cutting Stone’s hair during production. “I cut her hair, which just means I cut off her ponytail, but still!” Alwyn said with a smile, adding that the experience could have gone wrong. His co-star Mamoudou Athie responded, “Still! That could go wrong.”

The video, released ahead of the film’s digital release on August 27, also features other cast members, including Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley, talking about their experiences on set. Plemons described the atmosphere on set as surprisingly relaxed despite the film’s dark themes, comparing it to a “weird summer camp.”

Kinds of Kindness, directed by Lanthimos, tells three distinct stories: one about a man trying to get his life together, another about a cop dealing with the mysterious return of his wife, and a third about a woman searching for a spiritual guide. The film, which also stars Hong Chau and Hunter Schafer, marks another collaboration between Stone and Alwyn, who previously worked together on Lanthimos’ 2018 film The Favourite.

Stone praised Alwyn in the film’s production notes, saying, “I love Joe. We had to do some pretty dark stuff on this film, so it was extremely comforting to be around him because he’s one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.”

“Kinds of Kindness” will be available on Blu-ray and DVD from October 8th.
