A junkie who almost scalped his partner by ripping out clumps of her hair has been sentenced to more than two years in prison.

Drug user Andrew Williamson, 41, also beat the woman and threatened her with a knife before slashing her sofa and phone at her home in Northampton.

Shocking images show the victim’s scalp where Williamson ripped out her hair with his bare hands. A senior police officer said the injuries were among the worst she had ever seen.

The brutal attack on November 4 last year took place in front of the woman’s two children, but despite her injuries she was still able to dial 999.

Williamson fled the scene while Northamptonshire Police rushed to the address and their Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit (DAIU) subsequently launched a manhunt.

When officers arrived, the victim told them that she was also choked and repeatedly punched in the face during the attack.

In January, the attacker was finally caught and charged with assault, intentional strangulation and two counts of criminal damage.

He admitted assault but denied the other three offences he was charged with at Northampton Crown Court.

Williamson, from Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire, has now been sentenced to two years and three months in prison.

He was also given a restraining order banning him from contacting the victim for five years and ordered to pay victim compensation of £228.

PC Rachel Powell said: “During our investigation it became painfully clear the amount of fear and suffering Andrew Williamson caused this woman.”

“This was a prolonged attack that left her with injuries that have affected her both emotionally and physically.”

“He ripped out so much of her hair that she was partially scalped, which was one of the worst injuries I have seen in my 20-year career.”

“Williamson’s violence, threats and intimidation left her terrified and powerless to escape him. But thanks to her courage in speaking out about what he had done to her, he admitted his guilt and was rightly imprisoned for his unacceptable actions.”

“This woman deserves nothing but happiness for her future and I hope that as she continues to heal and recover, she takes some comfort in knowing that Williamson is pleading guilty and rightly going to prison.”
