Vice President Kamala Harris spoke to reporters on Thursday for the first time since becoming the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee nearly three weeks ago.
She spoke to media on the tarmac at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport following a campaign rally in Michigan and after former President Trump held a lengthy press conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Thursday afternoon.
Harris responded to criticism that she had not given an official press conference or an extensive interview since being named as the likely nominee.
“I’ve spoken to my team. I’d like us to set up an interview before the end of the month,” Harris said.
18 DAYS: Kamala Harris has not held a press conference since being named the presumptive Democratic nominee.
The Vice President also mentioned an agreement with Trump to hold at least one presidential debate before Election Day on November 5.
“Well, I’m glad he finally agreed to a debate on September 10,” she said, adding that she was willing to schedule more debates with the former president.
Trump said Thursday he will participate in three debates next month on Fox News Channel, NBC and ABC.

Trump had previously indicated that he might not agree to the ABC debate originally scheduled with President Biden before Harris replaced him as the Democratic presidential nominee nearly three weeks ago.
“I can’t speculate on what he’s thinking,” Harris said when asked about Trump’s withdrawal from the debate.
Harris also addressed Republicans who questioned Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s military record after she named him her vice presidential candidate on Tuesday.
“Look, I commend everyone who has stepped forward to serve our country,” she said. “And I think we all should.”
The controversy arose after Republicans accused Walz of engaging in “stolen valor nonsense” regarding his military qualifications.
Harris’ stop on the tarmac came after Trump attacked the vice president for not answering official questions from reporters on the campaign trail since being named the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.
“Kamala is refusing to do interviews because her team recognizes that she is unable to answer questions, just as Biden was unable to answer questions, only for different reasons,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
She also did not show up for the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago, where former President Trump made headlines last week with a question-and-answer session.
Harris was 18 days ago without holding a formal press conference since she emerged as the presumptive nominee last month. President Biden endorsed her on July 21 as he suspended his re-election campaign.
