Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the Chiefs, the two-time defending Super Bowl champions, will play the final two games of their preseason at home, starting with Saturday’s game against the Lions. Kansas City was away at the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1, losing 26-13 and seeing top recruit Hollywood Brown dislocate his collarbone. Perhaps Week 2 can mean a better, healthier return to action against the perennial underdog Lions.

However, Detroit showed a new level of fighting spirit in 2023 that was a hallmark of Dan Campbell’s time as head coach. The Lions went 12-5 last season and won two straight playoff games in front of their home crowd before falling to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.
