Kansas plays against Drake in Des Moines on Sunday

DES MOINES, Iowa – After a win in its season opener on Thursday, Kansas remains on the road and faces Drake on Sunday afternoon at Mediacom Stadium. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Kansas (1-0) looks to build on its 2-1 win over South Dakota State on Thursday night. After falling behind 1-0 in the 20th minute of play, the Jayhawks responded with two goals in the next 15 minutes to build a lead they held for the rest of the game.

“We were pleased with the result on Thursday night at South Dakota State,” said new head coach Nate Lie. “However, we need to improve in many areas to get a result against a talented Drake team. Sunday will be a good challenge for us as we look to take a step forward.”

First semester Jillian Gregorski And Shea Ryan Both scored in their first career games on Thursday. Gregorski and Ryan assisted each other on their goals. Junior Lexi Watts and Redshirt Junior Emika Kawagishi also recorded an assist in the game.

The Jayhawks had 22 players on the court against South Dakota State, 13 of whom made their debut for Kansas. Redshirt freshman Sophie Dawe was one of those players making her debut, as she started all 90 minutes in goal and saved four shots to earn her first career win.

ABOUT DRAKE
Drake (0-0-1) also started the season on Thursday night. The Bulldogs played a 1-1 draw at St. Thomas. Last season, Drake finished with a record of 13-4-3 and was the regular season champion of the Missouri Valley Conference. The Bulldogs were tipped to finish second in the Missouri Valley Conference this season.

SERIES HISTORY
Kansas leads the all-time series 3-0-1 against Drake, with a 3-0-0 record in games played in Des Moines, Iowa. The last meeting was on August 28, 2022 at Drake, when Assa Edge scored her first career goal in a 3-1 win. Kante was credited with the winning goal.
