The Better Choices, Better Health workshops are evidence-based self-management programs originally developed at Stanford University to help participants better manage their health.

To register for the Better Choices, Better Health workshop series, contact Johnny Yago at 808-241-4898 or [email protected] at least three business days prior to the workshop. Pre-registration is required and space is limited to 10 participants.

Developed by the Self-Management Resource Center, the program is designed to support participants and give them confidence in their ability to manage their diabetes while leading an active and fulfilling life.

The workshop is part of a statewide initiative called Hawai’i Healthy Aging Partnership – Empowering Elders. To get the most benefit, participants should plan to attend all six sessions.

Topics covered include the following:

  • Targeted exercises to maintain and increase strength and endurance;
  • Healthy eating;
  • Appropriate use of medications;
  • How you can collaborate more effectively with healthcare providers; and
  • Dealing with emotions and depression

Participants create weekly action plans, share experiences, and help each other solve problems they encounter while creating and implementing their self-management program.
