“Keep an eye out” for the Atlanta Falcons to sign former Ohio State RB

The Atlanta Falcons have made several additions in recent days and seem interested in adding another player to their roster.

According to Sportskeeda, the Falcons – along with the New Orleans Saints and New York Giants – are teams to keep an eye on when it comes to undrafted rookie running back Miyan Williams, who has also worked out for the Houston Texans and Cincinnati Bengals.

Williams, who attended Ohio State University, is fully healthy after a knee injury cost him the final five games of his college career and limited his availability in the pre-draft process. He is expected to be a late-camp addition who could compete for a spot on the practice squad.

Williams, 22, spent five seasons with the Buckeyes, earning three honors while appearing in 31 games. He finished his career with 1,555 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground and added 18 receptions for 143 yards through the air.

Williams, a Cincinnati native, had the two most productive years of his college career in 2021-22.

As a redshirt sophomore in 2021, he managed 71 carries for 507 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 7.1 yards per attempt. The following year, Williams recorded 128 carries for 825 yards and 14 touchdowns, which ranked him third in the Big Ten. He was named to the All-Big Ten third team.

In 2023, Williams struggled with injuries and only played in six games, catching 49 carries but managing just 158 yards – an average of 3.2 yards per carry – and three scores.

At 5’10” and 220 pounds, Williams would fit well into Atlanta’s heavy running back group that includes Bijan Robinson (217 pounds), Tyler Allgeier (217 pounds), Jase McClellan (216 pounds), Carlos Washington Jr. (219 pounds) and newcomer Spencer Brown (219 pounds). The only player under 200 pounds is Avery Williams (175 pounds), who also serves as a returner and special teams ace.

The Falcons will likely have four running backs on their final roster: Robinson, Allgeier, Williams and a yet-to-be-determined No. 4, a spot likely to be won by Washington or McClellan.

Whoever loses the battle for the final spot on the active roster will likely have a good chance of being added to Atlanta’s practice squad, putting Williams’ possible future in limbo.

But now, with the final cuts coming on August 27, Williams may still get a chance to prove himself in the late training camp.
