Kings hold training sessions with Isaiah Thomas and other free agents

The Sacramento Kings currently have 14 players on the standard roster, along with Summer League standout Boogie Ellis, leaving one main roster open and two training camp invites. According to FOX 40’s Sean Cunningham, the team plans to hold “some competitive workouts” soon with free agents, including former Kings player Isaiah Thomas.

Other players mentioned by Cunningham who he said will participate in these workouts alongside some players currently on Sacramento’s roster include wingers Juan Toscano-Anderson and Lonnie Walker, as well as big man Tony Bradley.

As mentioned, Isaiah Thomas has been a favorite of Kings fans since he was selected 60th overall in the 2011 NBA Draft and played three seasons in the Californian capital.

Toscano-Anderson is a newer familiar face. Knowing head coach Mike Brown from their time together at Golden State, the 6-foot-10 winger was given the chance to compete for a spot in training camp last season.

Although he ultimately failed to make the cut, another opportunity arose mid-season and he joined the Kings on two consecutive ten-day contracts, appearing in eleven games.

Lonnie Walker IV (25) is the youngest of the group. The 6’4″ former first-round pick played four seasons with San Antonio before spending a year with the Lakers and last season in Brooklyn. With the Nets, he scored 9.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists on 42.3 percent field shooting, including 38.4 percent three-point shooting in an average of 17.4 minutes.

And finally, Tony Bradley (26), who is 2.08 m tall and played four games with the Mavericks’ G-League team, the Texas Legends, before being cut from the roster.

Isaiah Thomas would have to outshine Boogie Ellis and/or Jordan McLaughlin. Lonnie Walker would likely have to battle Colby Jones for a spot, assuming both are behind Devin Carter (if healthy), Kevin Huerter, Malik Monk, and Keon Ellis.

Since Juan Toscano-Anderson is bigger, he could face a battle with Jalen McDaniels and some of the wingers mentioned above.

Tony Bradley, the only center on the list, competes against Alex Len and Orlando Robinson.

Not with regard to the upcoming training, but to finally duty roster.

With one spot still open and two training camp invites, it will be interesting to see which of these players impresses General Manager Monte McNair enough to get the call – if any.

When is the next interesting offseason date for the Sacramento Kings?

Now that we know when the Kings will play their season opener, we can look forward to October 24th when the Beam team’s opening game will take place against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Training camps begin in late September, meaning there could be one or two more moves under general manager Monte McNair before the players start competing at the Golden 1 Center.
