Rock Solid Wrestling wanted to “shake the lake” with its card on Saturday night (August 24) at the Northern College gymnasium and that’s exactly what they did: a champion defended his title and new tag team champions were crowned.

The big winner of the evening, however, was actually Kirkland Lake Community Living, as all proceeds from the event went to that organization and the card was also a tribute to the late Raymond Contant.

Over 450 fans gathered in the college gymnasium to watch the nearly three-hour show, and they were not disappointed, as crowd favorite and longtime Canadian Heavyweight Champion Scotty the Body defended his title in an entertaining back-and-forth battle against longtime rival and current TNA star Cody Deaner.

In the co-main event, The Road Truck Crew, consisting of Mikey J. and Uncle Custom, defeated The Deadly Venoms, Anthony Darko and Tornado to win the Canadian Tag Team titles.

The match began with the Road Truck Crew appearing in Kirkland Lake Gold Miners jerseys and getting the crowd pumped up. However, the Crew never got to show off their jerseys in the ring as the Deadly Venoms attacked them outside the ring before the bell rang.

The action continued inside and outside the ring and in the end the crowd favorites won and got their hands on the titles.

After the fights, Rock Solid Wrestling promoter Adam Contant said it was a fantastic evening.

“Kirkland Lake always delivers when it comes to wrestling shows. They were loud, they were enthusiastic, they really got into it and that’s where the magic happens.”

Referring to the attendance figures, Contant said: “We absolutely exceeded last year’s numbers. I’m sure we raised a lot of money for Community Living, so overall it was a great night.”

Among those in attendance was Kirkland Lake City Councilman Rick Owen, who attended the event with some of his family. Contant said it was an “honor” to have the city officially recognize the show.

“He (Owen) knew my uncle, had coffee with him and talked about hockey. It was wonderful to have so many people here tonight who are connected to Raymond.”

Before the game began, Owen remembered the conversations he had with Raymond, especially when they talked about the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The amounts collected on Saturday are still being calculated at the time of writing, but Contant said the official check presentation will take place shortly.
