A previously accurate leaker said that Apple’s upcoming third-generation AirPods Pro will feature “much better” active noise cancellation than the second-generation AirPods Pro.
The previously reliable leaker known as Kosutami made a post today on the social network formerly known as Twitter. Although the leaker said the AirPods Pro 3 would feature active noise cancellation, no further details about the alleged upgrade were revealed.

Apple is expected to unveil both low-end and mid-tier AirPods 4 models at its upcoming iPhone event on September 9 at Apple Park. While Kosutami has also claimed that the AirPods Pro 3 will also be released “soon,” BloombergMark Gurman has previously said that Apple plans to release its redesigned AirPods Pro in 2025.

Gurman says we can expect both versions of the AirPods 4 to switch to USB-C. The entry-level AirPods 4 will likely not have wireless charging, while the mid-range earbuds will offer the feature, continuing the same strategy the company has followed with its AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 lineup.
Gurman also says that the upcoming AirPods 4 are intended to be a replacement for both models, as the new earbuds will be available as a replacement for the entry-level AirPods 2 as well as a mid-range model that will replace the AirPod 3. While the new earbuds will have a similar design, only the mid-range AirPods 4 will feature active noise cancellation.
Rumor has it that the AirPods Max will also receive an update later this year, but the only expected change is a USB-C charging port, replacing the current Lightning port.
