Bob sat down with his old buddy (and one of his favorite Englishmen), Forbidden Planet TV‘S Andrew Sumnerat San Diego Comic Con 2024 and talked about his storied career – from his secret Fort Worth, Texas, origins, to his early years as a convention-goer and professional comic book salesman, to the nearly three decades he’s spent marketing some of the best comic books of all time.

The founder of downthetubes, which he founded in 1998. John works as a comic and magazine editor, writer and in promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek: Explorerspublished by Titan – his third activity with the originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
He has worked in British comics publishing since the 1980s and has edited titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazineand more. He was also editor of the comic anthology STRIP Magazine and has edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic book collections, including the volumes “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He is the author of Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies for B7 Comics, Crucible, an original project with 2000AD artist Smuzz, and Death Duty and Skow Dogs with Dave Hailwood.
