Live music and documentary at Wachholz College Center in August


From enchanting music to a gripping documentary, there are a variety of performances and screenings at Wachholz College Center this month.

Girl Named Tom, the first trio to win NBC’s The Voice, will perform on Sunday, August 11. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.

Known for their harmonious vocals and soulful performances, sibling trio Bekah, Joshua and Caleb Liechty have wowed audiences across the country, generating millions of streams with their hit covers of “River,” “The Chain,” and “Dust in the Wind.” The proud Midwesterners have garnered even more attention with the independent EP “Another World.”

Their unique mix of folk, pop and soulful melodies promises an unforgettable musical evening.

On August 16, the exceptional violinist Wai Mizutani will grace the stage with the acclaimed composer and pianist Kui Dong in a concert featuring beloved old classics and original works by Kui Dong that are new to Montana.

At the concert entitled “Masterpieces 4: Wai and Kui with Friends,” audiences are treated to an evening of classical masterpieces performed with exceptional artistry. Mizutani’s renowned skill and emotional expression are complemented by the brilliant collaboration of his guest artists.

The evening starts at 7 p.m.

Country legend Clint Black celebrates the 35th anniversary of his groundbreaking album Killin’ Time with a special performance on August 25. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.

Black’s influence on the country music scene is undeniable. Fans can expect classic hits and fan favorites that make for an evening of nostalgic and soulful country music.

For the first time ever, he will play the groundbreaking album live from start to finish, followed by more of his legendary hits.

Black is a true triple-talented singer/guitarist/songwriter. He has sold more than 20 million records, written and recorded 22 No. 1 singles, and has received nearly two dozen gold and platinum awards, a GRAMMY, and numerous CMA, ACM, and American Music Awards. He is a member of the Grand Ole Opry and has been honored with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Nashville Walk of Fame. His musical style includes traditional country, honky-tonk, and western swing.

The month will conclude on August 29 with the screening of the powerful documentary film “Bring Them Home,” which tells the story of a small group of Blackfoot Indians and their mission to establish the first wild buffalo herd on their ancestral territory since the species nearly became extinct a century ago.

The narrator is Oscar-nominated Blackfeet/Nez Perce actress Lily Gladstone, and the film is directed by Blackfeet siblings Ivan and Ivy MacDonald with Daniel Glick.

The event will also feature “Supaman” – a world-renowned Native American dancer and innovative hip-hop artist who has dedicated his life to empowering and spreading a message of hope, pride and resilience through his original art form.
