Liverpool finally wants to sign Inacio cheaply

Although Liverpool are reportedly interested in strengthening their squad in several areas, they have not yet made any new signings as the transfer window will close in less than three weeks.

Arne Slot reportedly wants a new midfielder and a new winger, but following the departure of Joel Matip as a free agent, signing a new defender is also on his wish list.

News – Player rejects big offers and agrees long-term deal to join Liverpool – report

Sporting CP star Goncalo Inacio has emerged as a serious option for the Reds and they are reportedly pushing hard to lure him to Anfield before the deadline.

Well, oh Jogo (News image provided below) reports that Liverpool are “already in the process” of pursuing the Portuguese and will hold a meeting with the player’s agent Miguel Pinho – who is already in England – about the deal in the coming days. The Reds are expected to present their offer to the player during the meeting.

His current contract has a release clause of £51 million (€60 million), but Sporting could ultimately accept a transfer fee of around £38 million (€45 million) for him, meaning the defender could be bought at a reduced price.

Liverpool are apparently considering signing a new centre-back for the left side, having already had Ibrahima Konate and Jarell Quansah as RCB options.

A versatile left-footed defender who is originally a centre-back but is also comfortable at left-back, Inacio is a ball-playing defender who has won multiple Portuguese league titles as the leader of the Lions’ back line.

The Portuguese international is only 22 years old and could therefore play for Liverpool for the next decade should he join the club at some point.

Have your say – Should Liverpool spend the money to finally sign Goncalo Inacio?
