Los Alamos Medical Center receives laboratory accreditation from the Joint Commission – Los Alamos Reporter

LAMC PRESS RELEASE

Los Alamos Medical Center is pleased to announce that it has received the Gold Seal of Approval® from the Joint Commission for Laboratory Accreditation by demonstrating ongoing compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a healthcare organization’s commitment to safe, high-quality patient care.

LAMC underwent a rigorous, unannounced on-site audit from June 4-6, 2024. During the visit, a Joint Commission assessor evaluated compliance with laboratory standards in several areas, including care environment, infection prevention and control, leadership, performance improvement, and staff qualifications and competence.

“These inspection results demonstrate the commitment of our laboratory leadership and team members. High-quality laboratory results lead to high-quality patient care,” said Tracie Stratton, CEO of Los Alamos Medical Center. “I am proud of how this team has been able to care for our patients and meet evolving testing needs in the community. This accreditation from The Joint Commission reflects our team’s ongoing efforts to further our mission of making communities healthier.”

The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts, and patients. They are based on scientific literature and expert consensus and are intended to help health care organizations measure, evaluate, and improve their performance.
The experts also conducted observations and interviews on site.

“As a healthcare accreditation body, The Joint Commission partners with healthcare organizations across all care settings to promote safer, higher quality care that is more equitable and compassionate,” says Ken Grubbs, DNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president of accreditation and certification operations and chief nursing officer for The Joint Commission. “By collaborating on innovative solutions and evidence-based resources and tools, The Joint Commission drives improvement while maintaining accountability through our leading survey methodologies and standards. We commend LAMC for its commitment to improving safety, quality, equity and compassion for all patients.”
