LSU EDGE Sai’vion Jones ready for big 2024 season

LSU edge rusher Sai’vion Jones is poised for a breakthrough 2024 season with the Tigers as he continues to work toward a stellar fall camp.

Jones, who played on the first team defensive line, has had an impressive offseason after rebuilding his body.

He will weigh about 285 pounds at the start of the 2024 season, he told reporters Friday, and he is becoming more and more comfortable with his current size.

With LSU EDGE coach Kevin Peoples working exclusively with the defensive ends, Jones will have the opportunity to spend more time one-on-one with his position coach ahead of what many are anticipating as a big season this fall.

Jones has trained his body, refined his technique and lived in the film room to sharpen his skills and take his game to the next level.

Now it’s about putting everything together in 2024 to help the Tigers break through this season.

Jones met with the media on Friday afternoon to talk about his offseason:

Influence and improvement of technique by LSU EDGE coach Kevin Peoples:

“We have something called a pass rush track. There are two different types of tracks you can have offensive linemen do. So if I want the offensive lineman to turn their shoulders more and get them to rush you, I’ll do a speed track that’s six yards behind them. But if I want them to plant their feet and be able to move like a mess, I’ll go four yards behind them.”

Physically ready for the big 2024 season:

“I feel different. I weigh about 283 pounds right now. Last year was the first time I played at that weight. But as time has gone on, while I don’t feel lighter, I’m definitely more used to the weight I’ve gained now and it doesn’t affect me as much as it did last year.”

Utilize LSU’s talented offensive line to get better:

“It’s been great. Every time (me and Emery Jones compete), we sit together after practice and talk about the move we did and what made us do it. When we can connect like that after practice and talk about what moves we did and why he did it, it just helps us get better. (Jones is) definitely the best right tackle and we have the best left tackle. It doesn’t get any better than that.”

Motivation: Compete against Will Campbell and Emery Jones every day

“It motivates (the defensive line). It motivates us because we know that if we can beat them or at least challenge them, most of the offensive tackles we face are going to be a breeze. I wouldn’t say it’s going to be a breeze, but it’s definitely nothing new or something we’ve never faced before.”
