The city has planned a two-week closure of Lualalualei Beach Park in Waianae next month for maintenance and repairs.
The closure from September 4 to 18 will affect a nearly 800-meter-long stretch of coastline – from “Sewers” near the restroom across from the Waianae Wastewater Treatment Plant to “Middles” near the parking lot near Ala Poko Street.
City parks staff will perform landscaping, brush removal, irrigation repairs, and maintain car gates. Additionally, the park will be thoroughly cleaned by Honolulu Parks staff with assistance from other City staff and community volunteers.
Signs and fences will be put up to mark the restricted areas.
The beach park is expected to reopen on Thursday, September 19. Camping will be allowed again at the park’s campground on Friday, September 20.
City officials said in April that a similar closure of part of Ulehawa Beach Park in Waianae resulted in nearly three tons of trash and 10 cubic yards of recycled metal being disposed of.
Honolulu City Councilwoman Andria Tupola leads a community cleanup on September 7.
Interested parties should meet at 7:30 a.m. in the Waianae Mall parking lot and should wear closed shoes, gloves, hat and sunscreen. Cleaning supplies, water and bentos will be provided.
