After the long closure, repair work on the lift began in early July after Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora announced 1 crore from its MPLAD funds for the renovation of the entire Civil Hospital, which includes the MCH.

Although authorities said the lift would be operational again in one to two weeks, or more than a month, it remains closed.

Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Deepika said, “The repair work was in progress and now perhaps only the cleaning work needs to be done.”

When asked when the lift would be put back into service for patients, she asked to contact MP Arora. “This repair is part of the renovation project undertaken by the MP. For further details, contact him.”

When contacted, MP Arora did not respond to several calls and messages.

The installation of the elevator was carried out at a cost of 50 lakh in 2014, but soon after the inauguration it was closed.

According to SMO Deepika, some children got stuck in the lift shortly after it opened, after which it was closed.

Health authorities had previously cited a lack of elevator supervision as the reason for the closure.
