On August 9, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers took the stage at TODAY Plaza at Rockefeller Center and performed two of her fans’ favorite songs: “Love You For a Long Time” and “The Kill.”

The 30-year-old shone in a white summer dress in perfect Big Apple weather. Even the stars of TODAY were thrilled with the performance. Savannah Guthrie pleaded on social media earlier in the day: “I hope she sings ‘Love You For a Long Time’ and thankfully Rogers made the mother of two’s wish come true!

Rogers previously performed TODAY in 2019.

Like many of her fellow songwriters, one of her greatest strengths is writing the most soulful and relatable lyrics she can. Take her 2019 hit “Love You For a Long Time,” for example, which effortlessly portrays the feeling of love and passion between two people. Lines like “Oh, I never knew, yeah, you surprised me / While I was getting so lost in your diamond eyes / So many things I still want to say / And if devotion is a river, then I’m floating away” stay in listeners’ minds and have helped propel Rogers to worldwide fame.

The lyrics of “The Kill” tell a heartbreaking story of lost love, regret and the courage to start over. That’s Rogers in a nutshell: infinitely relatable and at the same time quietly poetic.

Although fans have theorized that Rogers once had a romance with another musician based on the lyrics of her last two studio albums, there is no further confirmation regarding her current relationship status.

Rogers’ performance on TODAY was her last performance on American soil for a while. Starting next weekend, she will embark on a 13-show European tour that will see her play for fans in Germany, Austria, and Ireland before wrapping up the tour in September with a few dates in the United Kingdom. European fans have something to look forward to!

(Don’t worry, Rogers has a small US tour planned for October 2024!)
