Man drives with suspended license and Fort Wayne police pursue him to Ohio – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WISH) – A man driving without a license ended up behind bars Sunday after engaging Fort Wayne police in a chase that ended in an Ohio field.

Fort Wayne Police officers were dispatched around 7 a.m. Sunday to investigate a suspicious vehicle in a private parking lot.

When police arrived, they found 24-year-old Gage Maples sleeping in the suspect vehicle. Officers were checking Maples for warrants when he suddenly jumped back into his car and drove away.

The chase continued to Jefferson Boulevard and Ardmore Avenue, where police used speed bumps on Maples’ car. The speed bumps flattened three of the four tires, but Maples continued driving on the rims.

Officers pursued Maples through downtown Fort Wayne, out of the city into New Haven and into Allen County. They say the chase reached speeds of up to 80 miles per hour in some areas.

The pursuit finally ended when they reached Ohio, Maples lost control of his vehicle and veered into a field.

His car came to a stop and officers took Maples into custody. Police later learned that Maples was driving on a suspended Ohio license.

Maples is facing preliminary charges of resisting police.
