Man who lured woman released

A man who lured a woman into a Westminster prison cell before killing her and burying her in a pine plantation has been released from prison.

Michal Adam Kurdziel was given a suspended sentence by the Supreme Court this morning after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to mother-of-four Nicolle Bates.

Kurdziel lured Ms. Bates to his home with a fake drug deal, despite knowing that her former partner, Bradley Wayne Harvey, planned to rob and assault her upon her arrival.

Ms Bates’ badly decomposed body was found in a shallow grave in the Gnangara pine plantation more than two weeks after she was attacked in the accommodation unit.

At his court hearing on Friday, Judge Michael Corboy told Kurdziel to prepare for his release from prison.

Bradley Wayne Harvey was sentenced to ten years in prison last year after being acquitted of murder but found guilty of manslaughter.

In his sentencing, Judge Corboy said Kurdziel had formed a common intention to rob and assault Ms Bates before helping Harvey bury her.

He told the court that Kurdziel had already spent a “long period of time” in prison.

“Nothing I can do can ease the pain felt by Ms Bates’ family,” said Judge Corboy.

“This is the final step in the process that began almost three years ago.”

Kurdziel was sentenced to eleven months in prison for grievous bodily harm and one month for car theft, but the sentence was suspended for 18 months.

Outside the courtroom, Cathy Gardner, Ms Bates’ mother, criticized the verdict.
