After playing just six snaps in New England’s season opener against the Panthers last week, Drake Maye could get a more prominent role on the field Thursday when the Patriots host the Eagles for their second preseason game.

Kick-off in Foxborough is scheduled for 7 p.m.

According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, New England plans to give Maye an extended stint as quarterback in the game against Philadelphia.

“The plan, I’m told, is for Jacoby Brissett to play the first quarter, Maye the second and third quarters, Joe Milton the third and fourth quarters, and Bailey Zappe at the end,” Breer posted on X.

While Patriots fans will be excited to see Maye at least play in some offense, New England’s woeful performance in pass defense during joint practice with the Eagles on Tuesday is cause for great concern.

Ben Volin from The Boston Globe takes a look at five things to watch for Thursday night, including New England’s gap at the offensive tackle position and a potential rebound of the first team offense.
