The Mendocino Transit Authority is pleased to announce the resumption of Local 9 evening bus service beginning August 19. The resumption of the route was done in partnership with Mendocino College to assist local residents and students who require hourly bus service between 5:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
“It’s been a long time coming and we’re excited to reinstate evening bus service. MTA is grateful for the support of our board and Mendocino College,” said Jacob King, executive director. “This service not only improves transportation for our community, but also helps students by providing free and convenient transportation options.”
This important service is a vital transportation option for the Ukiah community, providing a safe, reliable and convenient way to get around during the evening hours. With stops at Mendocino College, UVAH, Ukiah Library and shopping centers, Local 9 ensures that students, faculty and residents can easily access important locations in the city.
A special benefit of this service is that all Mendocino College students can ride for free. This makes it easier than ever to commute to campus, run errands, or just enjoy the evening without worrying about the cost of transportation. To qualify for the free ride, students must be currently enrolled and have a student ID and sticker for the current semester. Students should contact the Mendocino College Welcome Center for more information.
“Transportation is a basic need for Mendocino College students, and the ability to use free bus routes in the evenings is essential to success,” said Ulises Velasco, vice president of student services at Mendocino College. “We have partnered with MTA for several years to provide free bus passes to our students, and we are pleased to have been able to expand our partnership for the benefit of students and our community.”
