Men’s soccer begins in 2024 at home against Florida Atlantic and Drake

Omaha, Nebraska – Creighton Men’s Soccer begins its 2024 season with two home games against Florida Atlantic (Thursday, August 22) and Drake (Sunday, August 25) at Morrison Stadium.



Successful start to the season

Creighton has a 31-6-5 record in home openers. Thursday will mark the 30th time in program history that the Bluejays have opened the season at home. Creighton has a 21-4-4 record the previous 29 times, losing 2-1 to Grand Canyon on Sept. 1, 2023.

Overall, the Bluejays have a 22-5-7 record in their first game of the season since Creighton resumed its men’s soccer program in 1990.

Fortress Morrison
Creighton has an overall record of 161-37-26 at Morrison Stadium (opened in 2003), including a 5-4-0 record last season.

The Bluejays are 14-3-4 in home openers at Morrison Stadium.

Creighton faces Florida Atlantic for the first time since 1999 and holds a 1-0-0 lead. The last time the two teams met was on September 35, 1999 in Omaha, and the Bluejays won 2-1 in overtime.

Creighton leads Drake 27-3-8
Former Missouri Valley Conference foes, Creighton and Drake have met on the field 39 times. The Bluejays have an impressive 27 wins and have lost just three times to the Bulldogs. This will be their first regular-season meeting since 2017. Creighton has won the last six meetings and is undefeated in nine games.

Scouting Creighton (0-0-0)
The Bluejays enter the 2024 season with a great mix of new talent and experienced leadership. Jackson Castro will lead Creighton’s attack, while the tandem of Mark O’Neill And Miguel Ventura will anchor the back line.

In goal, the Bluejays expect Blake Gillingham to play the majority of the minutes. Gillingham earned the role in the ninth game of the 2023 season after playing the final 11 games. Last season, he posted a 1.64 goals-against average and had one shutout.

In addition to Castro, the Bluejays also expect Miguel Arilla to build on his 12-point performance as a freshman. Another sophomore with high expectations is Andrija SavicThe sophomore defender played in 16 games last season and started 14 of them.

Exploring Florida Atlantic (0-0-0)
The Owls finished 6-8-3 last season, including a 3-5-0 record in the AAC. Florida Atlantic was ranked 5th out of 10 in the American Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll. One of FAU’s weaknesses last season was away games, as the Owls finished just 2-6-2.

Scout Dragon (0-0-0)
The Bulldogs finished 3-10-3 in 2023 and finished ninth in the MVC. The Bulldogs and Bluejays both faced Northeast Community College in the tryout season, but the results were not announced. Drake opens the 2024 season on Thursday, August 22 against Grand View.
