Michael Rubin explains why he turned off “Not Like Us” at his White Party

Michael Rubin defended drake while clearing up misconceptions about his annual White Party.

The CEO of Fanatics stopped by The Breakfast Club on Wednesday morning, August 14th, to talk about his upcoming Fanatics Fest NYC. During the conversation, the crew talked about his high-profile, all-white 4th of July party in the Hamptons. The event has brought in the likes of JAY Z, Beyonce, Tom Brady and other famous people and athletes. While Drake was at the party, rumors spread that the DJ was told not to play Kendrick Lamar’s “Not like us.” Guest host Loren LaRosa asked Rubin if the rumor was true.

“It was true,” Rubin confirmed. “Drake has been my friend for a long time. I’m not going to invite him and – look, he’s obviously going through a bit of a crisis right now. I’m not going to invite him there. I just didn’t think it was appropriate, so I sent a message and said, ‘Hey, let’s not play the music of someone who’s at odds with anyone there.'”

The rumor was one of several viral moments that came out of Rubin’s white party. This year’s event Special performances out of Lil Wayne, Mary J. BligeAnd Shaboozeywho all rocked the stage with their classic hits. Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, Machine Gun Kelly, Bryson Tiller, A$AP FergusonAnd Travis Scott also performed during the after-party. As usual, Rubin released photos from the event showing all the stars in attendance. However, photos of Rubin, the Little Baby from behind at the party last year sparked a lot of nasty jokes from trolls.

“I think it’s pathetic. I think it was a joke,” Rubin said. “You know what I hate? Watching a black man try to take down a black man. That sucks. Lil Baby is one of the best people on the planet. There’s no person who keeps doing more for his community, who is a great person, who works his ass off. That’s what happened with Baby. Baby did great and then people came to him.”
