Microsoft is discontinuing this iconic Windows theme app: Here’s why

Microsoft will be discontinuing the Paint 3D app later this year, as the app is set to be removed from the Microsoft Store entirely. For those who don’t know, the Paint 3D app was introduced as a standalone experience for Windows 10, as a major update to the Paint app, but has existed alongside it for Windows computers ever since. That may not be great news for Windows users who still swear by the Paint 3D app and will likely soon have to look for a replacement or use another software to design with.

When will Microsoft remove Paint 3D?

Microsoft points out on an official support page: “Paint 3D is deprecated and will be removed from the Microsoft Store on November 4, 2024. To view and edit 2D images, you can use Paint or Photos. To view 3D content, you can use 3D Viewer.”

Paint is now equipped with AI features so you don’t have to worry

Many may still feel that Paint is the same old basic application, but over time Microsoft has enhanced the app with a number of new features, including AI-powered tools that help you create and edit more effectively.

Image Creator is a tool that allows you to send a text-based prompt, choose a style, and then receive corresponding images. Another great convenience is the Background Removal feature, which, as the name suggests, uses AI to quickly remove the background of a subject. This can be very handy and helps you save time compared to doing it manually. In addition, you also get layer support so you can easily plan and design your projects with the appropriate details and organization.

However, keep in mind that these features are part of Microsoft Paint for Windows 11, so you will need to be using the latest operating system if you want to use these advanced features in the Paint app.
