Miley Cyrus and her boyfriend just called for matching hairstyles at the 2024 Grammys

While we’re not new to seeing couples wearing matching outfits on the red carpet, it’s rare for a matching ensemble to transcend the world of fashion. That’s probably why we’re obsessed when it comes to a rare beauty moment involving couples together. Cue Miley Cyrus’ extreme ’70s toupee, followed shortly after by her boyfriend Maxx Morando’s similarly voluminous vintage cut.

The Grammy-winning Flowers singer arrived at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in a truly eye-catching outfit: she wore a custom gold Margiela dress; one of the three standout looks of the evening. Vintage Bob Mackie anyone?

But what everyone was talking about was Cyrus’ extremely windswept hairstyle (and its undeniable resemblance to her partner Morando’s 1970s mullet). It made you think less of Jane Fonda and more of “a punk Raquel Welch from the 1970s,” said Miley’s hairstylist, who has worked at Byrdie for eight years.

“Last year I showed Miley’s wet look for hair,” Bob Recine revealed on Instagram. “This year we decided we wanted something drier and bigger, fuller hair, but sexy and tousled and touchable.”

The stylist began by priming Cyrus’ damp hair from root to tip with an anti-humidity spray (a no-brainer for a look fit for hours of awards shows) and a heat protectant spray.

“I start by applying two products to damp hair. Section by section, from root to tip, I apply Nexxus Epic Shine Anti-Humidity Spray, which with its moisture-repellent properties prevents humidity and wetness from altering my final result. I also apply Nexxus Prep&Protect Head Defense Spray to ensure I’m conditioning the hair and protecting it from high heat, while I start blow-drying each section with a medium-sized round brush.”

He then gently teased the roots of his hair and added a few Velcro rollers on top to achieve the essential superstar curl. To complete the look, he put a few drops of hair oil between his fingers to give the look a “jewel-like shine and light-reflecting properties that leave hair soft and nutrient-richly healthy.”
