Minnesota Twins continue to achieve historic performances from Royce Lewis

The Minnesota Twins lost to the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Tuesday. The 7-3 final was the ninth win of the year for Cubs rookie Shota Imanaga, who has a 9-2 record and a 3.06 ERA in his first year in the United States.

The loss leaves the Twins at 63-49. Although Minnesota didn’t do much offensively, they did manage another home run from infielder Royce Lewis. The hitter, who spent most of the season injured due to various issues, hit 1-for-4 with the home run and two RBIs. He now has 14 home runs in just 36 games this season.

In addition, he continues to achieve a historic production pace in his young career.

According to Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

Royce Lewis has 31 career HR

Only players with MORE in their first 105 career games:

Mark McGwire: 39
Cody Bellinger: 35
Pete Alonso: 34
Rudy Yorke: 34
Gary Sanchez: 33

others with 31:
Jose Abreu: 31
Ryan Brown: 31
Aaron Judge: 31

Lewis is one of the best power hitters in the game, but the problem is he hasn’t been on the field enough. He tore his ACL in 2022 and played only 12 games, he returned in 2023 and played 58. This year he has only played 36.

Not only is Lewis a threat, but he also has a solid batting average. He has a career batting average of .298 and an OPS of .954. If the Twins, who are currently second in the wild-card race, want to make a real impact in the playoffs, Lewis will definitely be a big reason why.

The Twins and Cubs play again on Wednesday at 2:20 p.m. ET.
