“Much better off”: Internet attacks Trump after his return to social media platforms

Nearly a year after Donald Trump last posted on X (formerly Twitter), billionaire social media platform owner Elon Musk reactivated the former president’s account on Monday, allowing him to post as Vice President Kamala Harris overtakes her 2024 opponent in several polls.

Trump’s post came ahead of an interview scheduled for Monday evening with Musk, a staunch MAGA supporter.

The former president not only posted a two-and-a-half minute campaign video, but also wrote: “Are you better off now than when I was? Our economy is in the ground. Our borders have disappeared. We are a nation in decline. Make the American dream AFFORDABLE again. Make America SAFE again. Make America GREAT again!”

Former President Barack Obama’s aide Tommy Vietor responded, “Much better off, thanks for asking.”

The X-account of the anti-Trump group The Lincoln Project added: “Glad you asked. Yes.”

Independent columnist Ahmed Baba echoed the other views, adding a screenshot from a report published in March that said:

On the last day of Trump’s presidency, there were over 400,000 deaths in America due to a pandemic that was allowed to spread unchecked because of his negligence. The unemployment rate was 4.7% when Trump took office. It was 6.7% when he left office. The US deficit was $584 billion when Trump took office and $3.3 trillion when he left office.

Trump is the first president in the history of public opinion polls whose approval ratings in the Gallup polling magazine never exceeded 50%, and he also had the lowest polling average of any president. According to the Washington Post, President Trump has told over 30,000 lies during his time in office, including the big lie that the election was stolen – a lie that would lead to an illegal attempt to overthrow American democracy by his own supporters.

Former Senator Nina Turner (D-Ohio) said, “The working class has also had a tough time under your presidency. Cutting taxes for large multinational corporations while allowing those corporations to monopolize things like our food supply and our health care have made things worse.”
