Mumbai’s water supply disrupted in Andheri, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli and other areas today after a key pipeline burst

Mumbai Watercut: Mumbai residents are facing water supply disruptions in several areas after one of the main pipelines carrying water from Lake Tansa burst in the Powai region on Friday.

The incident, which occurred at 1.30 pm, prompted the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to close the affected valves to prevent further water wastage. As a result, several wards in areas such as Dharavi, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Andheri East, Vile Parle, Bandra (East) and Santacruz will experience either low water pressure or complete supply failure until at least Saturday.

According to the BMC statement, the burst pipe was caused by a technical fault and the civic teams are currently working at full speed to repair the damage and restore regular water supply in the affected areas.

“The repair work is in progress. We have to isolate the valves to avoid water wastage which is affecting water supply in four districts. The repair work has been done on a war footing and is expected to continue for the next 24 hours,” a BMC official said.

Tansa Lake is one of the seven major water supply sources for the city of Mumbai and the disruption of this pipeline had cascading effects on several parts of the city.
