Before Napoli’s opening match against Verona, coach Antonio Conte expressed his anger at the lack of reinforcements he had brought in during the summer.

By the looks of things, the Partenopei have completed the signings of former Giallorossi Leonardo Spinazzola, centre-back Alessandro Buongiorno and Real Madrid outsider Rafa Marin.

Despite numerous new additions to the defensive department, the Azzurri are yet to sign key players, including David Neres from Benfica, Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, defensive midfielder Scot McTominay and Billy Gilmour from Birghton, with around two weeks left until the end of the transfer market.

Antonio Conte signed a three-year contract with Napoli in the summer after a coaching break and embarked on this journey with the desire to completely restructure the squad and under the conditions he received from the club’s management and the market.

However, the Italian tactician took time for the pre-match press conference, via CalcioNapoli1926, to express his dissatisfaction with the current situation in the squad with a view to the 2024/25 Serie A season.

Conte explained: “At Napoli I thought I would find a better situation. I expected some positive surprises. I thought we shouldn’t throw everything away after last year. We will evaluate and we know that not everything has to be done immediately.”

“To find yourself in a situation where there are 9-10 transfers… In other teams there are consolidated situations and they come onto the market. We are close to year 0, but that doesn’t scare me. But it’s better to have clarity and know what problems we are facing. The fans must know the situation well and I ask them for great unity.

“In difficulties we must be united, a single body. I don’t know how long it will take for Napoli to be competitive again, 6 months or 3 years. But we must be ready and not give up. We must be tough. There is no similarity with Juve because there is the Scudetto trap that has been spreading smoke for two years, but the situation is not like that. I want the similarity of desire.”
