CM inspects Nashik-Mumbai highway during repair work

Nashik: The Travel time between Nashik and Mumbai has reduced slightly to 6-7 hours from the earlier 8-9 hours after repair work on a portion of the route, transport officials said on Friday as Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inspected the stretch of the Mumbai-Agra Motorway between Thane city and Shahapur.
Gigantic Potholes Following the onset of monsoon, dams have formed on the Mumbai-Agra highway section between Nashik and Thane.
After the inspection, CM Shinde said the NHAI officials were instructed to Repair work is a priority. “A new technology, a fast-hardening concrete mix, is being used to fill the potholes. This method is extremely efficient and the road can be reopened within two hours after the potholes are filled with this mix. Also, precast slabs are being used to repair the damaged road sections. These technologies will be used on the entire Thane-Nashik highway stretch,” he said.
Dhananjay Bele, president of Nashik Industries and Merchants’ Association, said, “The general feedback is that the condition of the highway has improved. Repair work is going on in full swing.”
Rajendra Phad of the Nashik Transport Association said, “Three weeks ago, truck drivers used to take 8-10 hours to cover the Nashik-Mumbai route. Now it takes only 6-7 hours. Normally, truck drivers cover the distance in about five hours.” Abhay Kulkarni of the Nashik First Organisation said he feared that after heavy rains, everything would be back to normal. — Santosh Sonawane
