Nebraska football and volleyball players are featured on Panini trading cards

From the backup offensive lineman of the Nebraska football team to the star outside hitter of the volleyball team, your favorite Nebraska athlete will soon have his or her own trading card.

Panini America, a company that produces college and professional sports cards, announced Wednesday that Nebraska will be one of three colleges testing a new platform for trading cards of college athletes.

As part of the new program called “Panini College,” athletes from participating schools’ sports programs can decide whether they want to purchase their own Panini trading card online.

Football and volleyball players from Nebraska, Ohio State and Texas are the first to participate in the program, with the option to add more sports in the future. According to Panini, players who choose to have a trading card produced will be compensated based on sales of their individual card.

Soon, the rest of Nebraska’s football and volleyball teams will be able to join two players who already have their own trading cards: Lexi Rodriguez and Dylan Raiola.

Rodriguez, an All-American libero, was selected by Panini for the company’s first college volleyball card, which was released last October.

As for Raiola, the Husker quarterback signed a multi-year partnership with Panini prior to his arrival on campus last December. The company has already produced a limited number of Raiola cards, including signed versions that appeared in the 2024 Panini National Convention set this summer.
