Neta Auto, a brand of Chinese electric vehicle maker Hozon Auto, has started pre-sales of the shooting brake variant of its flagship sedan Neta S. Sales of the new model are expected to begin later this month, with deliveries starting next month.

The Neta S Shooting Brake has a pre-sale starting price of 175,900 RMB ($24,520), and customers who reserve the model now for 99 RMB will receive 1,000 RMB off their purchase, Neta announced today on its social media channels.

The Neta S Shooting Brake will initially be available in the extended range electric vehicle (EREV) variant, with the battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants to be launched at a later date, similar to the launch of the Neta L SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle).

The Neta S Shooting Brake is available for pre-sale in three EREV variants – 300 Standard, 300 Pro and 300 Max – with a starting price of RMB 175,900, RMB 189,900 and RMB 209,900 respectively.

According to the company, the BEV variant of the Neta S Shooting Brake will be built on the 800V high-voltage platform, which supports a 5C charging multiplier.

The model measures 4,980 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width and 1,480 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,980 mm.

All three EREV variants are powered by Neta’s Haozhi 2.0 EREV system and come standard with a battery pack with a capacity of 43.88 kWh.

All three variants have a CLTC battery range of 300 kilometers and a range of 1,200 kilometers with a full tank and full charge, Neta said in the announcement.

The Neta S Shooting Brake is equipped as standard with a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a peak power of 200 kW, Neta said, without revealing its acceleration time from 0-100 km/h.

According to Neta, the model’s cockpit is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155P chip that supports an AI (artificial intelligence) voice system.

The two cheaper variants of the Neta S Shooting Brake EREV are equipped with the Neta AD driver assistance system, which uses the Journey 3 chip from local chip manufacturer Horizon Robotics.

The most expensive variant features the Neta AD Max driver assistance system, which uses Nvidia’s Orin X chip and also features AT 128 LiDAR from Hesai Group (NASDAQ: HSAI).

Originally launched on July 31, 2022, the Neta S is Neta’s first attempt at the mid- to high-end market segment and is available in EREV and BEV versions.

Currently on sale, the 2024 Neta S was launched on July 31, 2023 and will be offered in seven versions, including three EREV variants and four BEV variants, with a starting price ranging from RMB 154,800 to 224,800.

Sales of the Neta S Shooting Brake will begin in August, with series deliveries starting in September, Hozon CEO Zhang Yong said on June 28 at the launch event for the BEV variant of the Neta L.

Sedan derivatives are a niche market in China and the number of hatchback or station wagon variants available so far has been minimal.

The Zeekr 001, the first model of Geely’s Zeekr (NYSE: ZK), is the Chinese automaker’s first foray into this segment and an unexpected success. The model’s starting price in China is currently 269,000 RMB.

Nio launched the ET5 Touring in China on June 15, 2023 at the same price as the regular ET5 sedan, starting at RMB 298,000 including battery, and is the second local model targeting this segment.

BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) now also has several models in the shooting brake style.

Neta’s current product range includes the Neta S, the Neta GT sports car, the Neta L, the Neta Aya SUV and the Neta X SUV.

Neta delivered 11,015 vehicles in July, up 9.72 percent from the same period last year and 7.93 percent from June, according to data released on August 1.

In the period January to July, Neta delivered 64,785 vehicles, a decrease of 10.59 percent compared to the previous year.
