New athletic directors in Wayne Hills, Wayne Valley NJ

WAYNE – Two highly experienced coaches have been appointed by the Board of Education to lead the athletic programs at Wayne Hills and Wayne Valley High Schools.

Ryan Bayley will take over the job in Wayne Hills and Jason Carcich in Wayne Valley.

They were a natural fit for the positions, said schools superintendent Mark Toback, who pointed out that the longtime coaches have served as athletic coordinators at the high schools for the past two years. In those roles, he said, they learned a lot from David Drozjock, who is retiring Sept. 1 as athletic director at both schools.

Bayley and Carcich each receive a prorated salary of $148,847 for performing their duties, which are technically called assistant principals for athletics, sports and student activities.

Bayley, 40, most recently taught special education at George Washington Middle School in Wayne.

The experienced teacher has also coached student-athletes in five sports: soccer, golf and lacrosse for boys at Wayne Hills and basketball and ice hockey for girls at Wayne Valley.

Carcich, 52, taught physical education at Wayne’s Theunis Dey School, George Washington and most recently Wayne Valley.

He also coached the Wayne Valley boys and girls volleyball teams for 30 years, amassing nearly 850 wins, three state championships and 17 Passaic County titles.

Carcich was one of 19 coaches inducted into the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association Hall of Fame at an awards ceremony in January at Pines Manor, a banquet hall in Edison.

According to Niche.com, which publishes annual lists of the best public schools, Wayne Hills and Wayne Valley are among the top 25 of all high school athletic programs in New Jersey.
