New coach takes over leadership of RHS girls basketball team

Richmond High School recently announced the hiring of Gabrielle “Gabby” Smith as the new head coach of the girls basketball team, effective August 2. Smith brings seven years of coaching experience, including stints at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Indiana State University, according to a press release.

Most recently, Smith served as an assistant coach for the school team at Park Tudor High School in Indianapolis.

As head coach, Smith will be responsible for all aspects of the girls basketball program, including practice scheduling, game strategy, player development and fostering a positive team culture.

Richmond Athletic Director Robert Lee commented on Smith’s hiring. “We are very excited to welcome Coach Smith to our athletic program,” Lee said in the release. “Coach Smith’s passion for the game and her commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the field make her an excellent addition to our program.”

“I am honored to join the Red Devil family and lead the girls basketball team,” Smith said in a statement. “I look forward to working with our talented student-athletes and building a competitive program that emphasizes skill development, teamwork and character.”
