New free exhibit celebrates Swaner Preserve & EcoCenter through December 1

A new exhibit titled “Beauty & the Beaks: A Photographic Love Letter to the Swaner Preserve” by Steve Krongard and Jodi Buren will be on display at the Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter through December 1.

In this new exhibit, visitors experience the dynamic landscapes of the Swaner Preserve and the majesty of the sandhill cranes that call it home. Stunning photographs and interactive elements reveal the science and magnificence of the preserve and the cranes that thrive here.

The free exhibition, available in both English and Spanish, is suitable for all ages.

Artists Steve Krongard and Jodi Buren have been photographing Swaner Preserve for many years, with similar passions but different visions. Their photographs are a love letter to the magnificent and timeless beauty; to the mist, snow, wind and rain; to the mountains and grasses; to the vast skies and the creatures that live beneath them. They photograph to capture the fleeting moment; to share with others this ever-changing encounter of earth, sky and the play of light of nature that graces us with its presence every day.

“What a special opportunity to highlight the complex beauty of this special wetland habitat. What I love about this exhibit is the ability Jodi and Steve give the viewer to shift their focus from macro to micro – capturing the brilliant expanses and the tiny details in a single exhibit,” says Hunter Klingensmith, Director of Visitor Experiences and Exhibitions at Swaner. “Our team had so much fun developing interactive experiences to accompany the photos and can’t wait to see people of all ages at this exhibit.”

Beauty and The Beaks offers children (and adults too) many interactive opportunities: dress up as a crane, build a nest, search for food or write the crane’s thoughts on the children’s wall. In addition, visitors can follow an interpretive guide to learn more about the ecosystem behind the photos or send their own love letter on a postcard.

All materials are available in both English and Spanish. Visitors can explore the exhibition during the EcoCenter’s regular opening hours, Wednesday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Anyone interested in purchasing artwork from the exhibition is invited to register for the “Meet the Artists” event on Tuesday, September 24th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This event, for those over 21, will include snacks and beverages, a discussion with the artists, and time to view the exhibition.

Tickets are free and available here; advance registration is required. More information about the exhibition can be found here.
