New Tata Safari launched – cheaper than the XUV700? » MotorOctane

Last week, Tata launched the much-awaited new Safari and Harrier models. The new Safari comes with radical changes compared to the previous model. It has a modern front design and premium interiors with several features unique to this segment. But what about the prices? Today, Tata announced the prices of the new Tata Safari. We also discussed the prices of the new Tata Harrier. Now let’s talk about the new Tata Safari.

Prices & Variants

The Safari’s price starts at Rs 19.08 lakh and goes up to Rs 30.29 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Please note that these are introductory prices. Just for reference, the Mahindra XUV700 starts at Rs 16.84 lakh and goes up to Rs 32.38 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Tata has not yet announced the prices of the automatic variants, which would give us a better basis to compare the new Safari with the XUV700. A detailed price breakdown of the announced variants can be found in the table below.

Tata has not yet announced the prices for the Automatic and #Dark variants. The following table includes the variants whose prices are yet to be announced.

Crash test of the new Tata Safari

Before Tata Motors announced the prices of the newly launched facelifted Tata Harrier and Tata Safari, the brand revealed the safety ratings of both SUVs. The SUVs were tested by Global NCAP and received a 5-star rating. For more details, visit New crash test results for Tata Harrier and Safari.

The new Safari gets a major exterior upgrade. We have a new grille at the front with body-coloured inserts that give it a checkered look. Above that, we have the new full-length daytime running light design. We have all LED headlamps and fog lamps. Tata has also updated the front fascia design. As for the side profile, it is more or less similar, apart from the new 19-inch alloy wheels. We have slight changes to the C-pillar and the Safari badge on the front door. At the rear, we have a connected tail lamp design with a black element that contrasts nicely.

The interiors of the new Safari have been significantly improved. Your attention is immediately caught by the new floating infotainment system. The rest of the dashboard gets a new dual-tone dashboard that changes depending on the variant you choose. Then we have a 4-spoke steering with a backlit Tata logo and touch-sensitive HVAC controls. The door pads also get different colors depending on the variant you choose.

Features

Now let’s talk about the features where Tata has taken a big leap. The new Safari comes with industry-first features like 10-speaker JBL system with Harman AudioworX, 12.3-inch infotainment system, 10-inch instrument cluster, wireless charging, air purifier, dual-zone AC, paddle shifters, 360-degree camera, voice commands and digital instrument cluster. Safety features include 11-function ADAS, 7 airbags, 3-point seat belts for all passengers, disc brakes on all wheels, fog lights with corner assist, front parking sensors, advanced ESP and blind spot monitoring.

The new Tata Safari is only available with a 2.0-litre diesel engine. This engine produces 167bhp and 350Nm of torque. There are manual and automatic transmission options to choose from. The new Safari also features electronic steering with different modes. Tata claims that the suspension has also been tweaked for comfort. The new Safari is not currently available with a petrol engine, but this is expected in the future.
