New video highlights 10 possible changes to the M4 Mac mini, including the possibility of an SD card reader

It has already been reported that the M4 Mac mini is set to launch later this year with a major redesign. It is said to have the compactness of an Apple TV but be a bit taller to accommodate the additional hardware. However, an aesthetic overhaul also brings other internal and external changes that we can look forward to and which were highlighted in a video, so let’s take a look.

New colors are also planned for the M4 Mac mini, with the aluminum casing intended to further enhance the premium look

A smaller chassis was mentioned before, but YouTube channel Max Tech decided to mention it anyway, as it’s likely the biggest change to the M4 Mac mini. This is notable information, as analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted that the M4 MacBook Pro models coming later this year will feature the same design as the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max-powered devices. Then again, the Mac mini hasn’t had a significant redesign in 14 years, so to say this was long overdue would be a massive understatement. Of course, we can expect Apple to introduce M4 and M4 Pro options for its compact device.

Considering previous benchmarks where the M4 was able to outperform the M3 and more powerful chipsets like the M3 Pro and Snapdragon X Elite in both single-core and multi-core tests, it’s a guarantee that the M4 Pro powering the Mac mini will deliver performance that no other portable computer on the market can. Other changes, such as three USB-C ports on the back, are also expected, with all three likely supporting the Thunderbolt 4 protocol and an HDMI port. These additions will be possible because the M4 has four Thunderbolt 4 controllers, which is double what the M3 has, according to previous reports.

Additionally, the Mac mini has only been available in silver since its launch, and while that was fine with many, the video mentions that there could be a space black option in the future. Other changes, like a redesigned cable that is also braided, could come with the packaging. Based on previous reports, the M4 Mac mini launch is not expected to happen until October, which is typical for Apple hardware launches. However, since there will be a redesign, we fully expect there to be a live event, but it will be short-lived. If you want to know more about the changes to the M4 Mac mini, we recommend watching the clip above.
