Next up for the Buckeyes No. 20 is the annual Wolstein Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State (1-0-1) returns to Columbus this week for two games in the annual Wolstein Classic after a road win at Akron on Sunday.

The Buckeyes will face SIUE at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on Thursday at approximately 8 p.m. Dayton and UNLV will kick off the 2024 Wolstein Classic at 6 p.m. Ohio State’s women’s team (3-0-0) will kick off the day at 4 p.m. against South Carolina in the first of three games at JOMS.

The Wolstein Classic continues on Sunday, September 1st with a 3 p.m. game between Dayton and SIUE, followed by the finale between Ohio State and UNLV at 7 p.m.

• This is the 18th year of the Wolstein Classic in Columbus. The event was first played in 2006, and since then Ohio State is 17-8-8.
• After a team vote, seniors Deylen Vellios And David Wrona were named captains for the 2024 season.
• The Big Ten has selected three Buckeyes as players to watch in 2024. Michael AdedokunSiggy Magnusson and Luciano Pechota made the league’s preseason list. Ohio State was picked by the conference coaches to finish sixth in the expanded Big Ten Conference.
• First semester David Ajagbe, Nick McHenry, Nick Skubis And Patrick McLaughlin all made their first appearance as Buckeyes this season.
• Ajagbe made his presence felt early in his career at Ohio State, scoring two goals in the first two games. He scored the equalizer in a 1-1 home tie with Cleveland State and then gave Ohio State a 1-0 lead in the 3rd minute in Akron. The Buckeyes scored another goal through Luciano Pechota to beat the Zips 2-0.
• In its last three road games over the past two seasons, Ohio State has allowed just one goal to the home team. The Buckeyes won 1-0 at Michigan State in the 2023 Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals (11/3/23) before playing Penn State 1-1 in the league semifinals (11/8/23), beating PSU 4-3 on penalties. Last Sunday in Akron, Ohio State defeated the Zips 2-0 in the first road game of the 2024 season.
• Three regular season Big Ten Conference games will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network this season. Ohio State and Penn State will face each team in State College on Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. on BTN in what will be their Big Ten opener. In their first meeting as league opponents, Ohio State’s home game against Washington on Oct. 7 (8 p.m.) and then the Senior Day game in Columbus against Michigan State on Oct. 29 (6 p.m.) will both be broadcast to a national audience on BTN.
• Ohio State and SIUE have only met twice so far. The Buckeyes have a record of 0-1-1 in these meetings. The Cougars won the last duel on September 28 in Columbus with a score of 3-2 (2:16).
• Ohio State is 1-1-0 overall in the series against UNLV. The last time the Runnin’ Rebels met, they won 3-2 on September 1, 2000 in Las Vegas.
• The Big Ten Conference consists of 11 teams that sponsor men’s soccer. As of this season, UCLA and Washington are new to the league. Oregon and USC were also added to the conference, but neither sponsors men’s soccer. The Buckeyes face new league member UCLA on the road on October 11 after hosting the Huskies on October 7.
• Several Buckeyes who missed the 2023 season due to injury will be available in 2024. Defender Nathan Demian And Thomas Gilej in addition to midfielder David Wrona back after injuries last season. Defender Deylen Vellioswho uses a fifth year of entitlement.
