NFL News: Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett sends warning to Drake Maye and Jerod Mayo

With one warm-up game still pending, New England Patriots are in the final stages of preparations for the NFL Season. Head Coach Jared Mayo has not yet decided who will be the starting QB for Week 1, but veteran Jacoby Brissett has made his intentions clear to newcomers Drake May.

The start of the preseason for a Patriots team in the midst of a rebuild has so far brought one win and one loss. Both games took place at Gillette Stadium: the debut was a win against the Carolina Panthers (17:3), while last weekend a narrow loss against the Philadelphia Eagles (13:14) followed.

Next Sunday, August 25, Mayo and the Patriots will travel to Washington to face the Commanders. The main goal is to complete preparations for the opening game of the season, regardless of the final outcome of the game.

Without doubt, The head coach’s most important task at the beginning of the season is to decide who will be the starting quarterback.Mayo still has to decide between the extensive NFL experience of Brissett or rookie Drake Maye, formerly of North Carolina.

Brissett made his position on the situation clear

While there is still uncertainty about the Patriots’ starting lineup in their season opener against the Bengals, one player is certain to be in the starting lineup: former Browns and Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

In an interview with the media, Brissett stated: “I still treat myself like I’m the starter.”

“I can’t worry about that,” said Brissett. “I just go out there and do my job. I’ve been in this league long enough and a lot of crazy things have happened in my career so far and I wouldn’t be shocked by anything.. But at the same time, I enjoy this process, do my best and just let things happen as they happen. . . . I don’t worry too much about the competition.”when asked about the competition to Maye.

Mayo still has to decide between Brissett and Maye

The New England head coach has not yet decided who will continue to be in the starting lineup in Week 1. In a press statement, Mayo said: “We don’t know at the moment. We still have a warm-up game and then a week after that. When I know, I’ll let you know.”

Although it looks like Brissett will likely be in the starting lineup, Mayo remained optimistic about Maye’s progress at the position: “Everything is going in the right direction at the moment and hopefully he will continue to improve.”
