NFL producer settles “bust” amounts for Patriots QB Drake Maye

Drake Maye may not be ready to take the reins for the New England Patriots just yet, but he has certainly made progress in training camp.

While head coach Jerod Mayo is still unsure which quarterback will start for the Patriots in Week 1, a former NFL film producer calmed any concerns about the rookie quarterback’s potential.

“I’m not sure he’s as inexperienced as people think,” Greg Cosell told FS1’s Colin Cowherd on “The Herd” on Wednesday. “He had a few things he needed to fix. He had a tendency to drift left in the pocket. You have to fix that in the National Football League because otherwise you put pressure on yourself. I think he’s comfortable.”

Cosell saw progress in Maye’s second preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

“I had the opportunity to talk to some coaches in North Carolina, where he played,” Cosell said. “They told me that they didn’t think there was any downside factor with Drake Maye. You have to know the kid, know how he works, know how he sees the game, know how his teammates react. I like Drake Maye. I thought he was the most capable quarterback in this draft.”
