August 28, 2024, 06:20 IST

The Sohna elevated road was constructed in two phases. The first phase of 7.2 km included a flyover and an underpass near Subhash Chowk and an elevated road starting from Subhash Chowk and ending beyond Badshahpur village, thus bypassing Vatika Chowk.

Gurgaon: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has closed one of the lanes of the Sohna flyover on the main carriageway from Sohna to Gurugram in Sector 48 opposite JMD Megapolis. The highways department said that the road was closed for routine maintenance work as one of the expansion joints had some cracks and needed to be repaired. NHAI officials said that they will carry out the repair work within a week.

A senior official of Oriental Engineering said that during routine checks, minor cracks were found in the expansion joint and a decision was taken to repair the joint. “One of the lanes of the Sohna-Gurugram main carriageway has been cordoned off and our workers are repairing the joint. Concrete and rubber strips are being used to repair the joints. Maintenance is an ongoing activity and our aim is preventive maintenance and repairing the structure before the road is further damaged,” he said.

Earlier in July this year, a portion of the main carriageway of Sohna Highway near Subash Chowk had collapsed after a sewer line running through it burst. The road has been repaired and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is now planning to repair the sewer line using CIPP technology to fix the problem.

The Sohna elevated road was opened to traffic on April 1, 2022.

The Sohna elevated road was constructed in two phases. The first phase, 7.2 km long, included a flyover and an underpass near Subhash Chowk and an elevated road starting from Subhash Chowk and ending beyond Badshahpur village, bypassing Vatika Chowk.

In the second phase, NHAI constructed a number of flyovers at Bhondsi, Damdama, Ghamroj, Alipur, Sohna ki Dhani and Alipur.

The entire road project was completed at a cost of 1,300 crores.
