Nick Wayne reflects on the ‘unreal’ time he worked with Christian Cage at AEW

Nick Wayne has made the most of the locker room of talent that surrounds him in AEW.

For almost his entire time in AEW, 19-year-old Wayne has fought in Christian Cage’s Patriarchy stable. This has allowed him to work closely with a veteran of the scene every week and thus develop enormously.

Wayne described it as Cage’s decision to take him under his wing. He recalls the former TNT Champion telling him, “I wouldn’t have taken you in if I didn’t want to. I saw so much potential in you since you started here and I knew you had to come with me. So thank you for proving me right.”

Speaking to the Battleground Podcast recently, Wayne talked about his ability to question wrestling legends.

“I’ve been able to learn from guys like Christian and at times Sting. It’s just amazing that I’m so young and have a guy like him within reach that I can talk to and get criticism from at any time,” he said. “I used to ask Sting and now Christian, ‘Please watch my matches and give me criticism because I want to get better.’ It’s great to hear what they have to say, they’re some of the best to do it. Everywhere they’ve gone they’ve been successful in their careers and I want to do the same.”

Wayne said that working with Cage was great, especially when it came to promos, a part of his game he wanted to improve.

“I always thought my promos were my weak point… But with Christian, who is the best at promos, you couldn’t ask for a better teacher. He helps me, I feel much more confident now speaking and cutting promos and so on.”
