Norwich Public Schools and Ellis Tech offer free lunch and breakfast

With the start of school, another back-to-school tradition returns: school meals.

Whether the food is excellent or just mediocre, school lunches (and breakfasts) provide a valuable source of nutrients for students who may not be getting enough to eat at home.

Norwich Public Schools and the CT Technical Education and Career System, which includes Norwich Technical High School and Harvard H. Ellis Technical High School in Danielson, will all participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program in the 2024-25 school year.

Students in participating school districts receive a free breakfast and lunch daily.

Norwich Free Academy and the Griswold, Killingly and Plainfield school districts do not participate in the CEP program, although each district offers a free or reduced-price lunch program.

What is the CEP program?

The Community Eligibility Provision is a federally funded program administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture that allows school districts to offer free breakfast and lunch to all enrolled students without requiring any paperwork to determine eligibility.

Reimbursement to the districts is made according to a specific key.

Do I need to do anything for my child to receive free meals?

No. In districts participating in the CEP program, all students can receive free breakfast and lunch.

How do I know what is being served?

You can access the menus for each Norwich Public Schools school here.
