NSP launches the campaign “Drive sober or get pulled over”

The Nebraska State Patrol has launched a enforcement campaign at the end of the summer travel season. The campaign runs from August 14th to September 2nd.

“In the coming weeks, events like the State Fair, Husker football and Labor Day weekend will have many people traveling throughout the state,” said Colonel John Bolduc, superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “We want Nebraska to end the summer safely.”

Police officers, deputies and officials from agencies across the state are working together for the Drive sober or get stopped Effort. Patrol officers will conduct high-visibility patrols throughout the state, monitoring for drunk driving.

So far in 2024, officers have arrested 821 people for driving under the influence of alcohol – a 23 percent increase over the same period last year. In addition, the number of traffic fatalities has increased by 26 percent compared to last year.

“Every fatal traffic accident is a tragedy and we know that many of them could be prevented if everyone drove sober,” said Colonel John Bolduc. “We encourage you to do your part to keep everyone on the road safe by choosing to drive sober.”

The campaign is made possible in part thanks to a $36,720 grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office. Any motorist who observes a dangerous driver can report it to the NSP Highway Helpline by calling *55 to reach an NSP dispatcher.
