Obituary: Gary Wayne Murphy of South Haven, MS, formerly of Stuttgart

Gary Wayne Murphy died on Thursday, August 8, 2024, in Southaven, Mississippi. He was born on March 28, 1942, in Crossett, Arkansas to Clarence W. and Doris Garrett Murphy. He graduated from Crossett High School in 1960 and the University of Arkansas at Monticello in 1964. On February 24, 1968, after a brief relationship, he married his sweetheart, Elaine Taylor. They lived in Lake Village, Arkansas, Crossett, Arkansas, Stuttgart, Arkansas, where he retired from Ag-Pro Companies, and Walls, Mississippi.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 56 years, Elaine; his only son, Lee (Monica) Murphy of Walls, Mississippi; and to those who called him “Pops,” his two grandchildren, Cody (Kelsey) Loudermilk of Walls, Mississippi and Taylor Murphy of Walls, Mississippi; and three sisters, Cheryl Goodwin of Crossett, Arkansas, Barbara Rainey of Crossett, Arkansas, and Marty (Buddy) Kinney of Crossett, Arkansas.

We will remember Gary as a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, “Papa”, colleague and special friend to many.

Friends are cordially invited to a gathering with the family on Saturday, August 17th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Brantley Funeral Home, 6875 Highway 305 North, Olive Branch, Mississippi.

A memorial service in Gary’s honor will be held at a later date at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 1201 South Main Street, Stuttgart, Arkansas, of which he was a long-time member.

In lieu of usual memorial contributions, memorial contributions may be made to the Desoto County Dream Center, 6735 Windchase Drive, Horn Lake, Mississippi, 38637, www.desotodreamcenter.org.
